UraniumU

Type
Sandstone-hosted uranium (tabular, locally roll-front)

A major uranium province in Niger, the world's fourth largest historical producer with about 159,000 t of uranium produced since 1971. Mineralisation is tabular, in continental siliciclastic formations along the regional Arlit fault. At Arlit (Tarat, Carboniferous) and Akouta (Guezouman, Carboniferous) the host is reduced and uranium is mainly tetravalent; at Imouraren (Tchirezrine, Jurassic) the host is oxidised and hexavalent uranium dominates, as silicates and vanadates. Grades range from 0.1 to 0.6% U.

0.29 ‰uraninite and coffinite (sandstone-hosted type)
Mean value for the sandstone-hosted category in the global compilation of Brennecka et al. (2010), where Tim Mersoï is among the type examples. It is higher than for the Athabasca unconformity deposits (+0.2 ‰) and the Olympic Dam IOCG (about 0 ‰). Active roll-fronts can locally give negative values through the Rayleigh effect (South Texas, Murphy et al., 2014).
