Jarosite and schwertmannite
Yellow to orange iron(III) sulfates that precipitate in very acidic waters, typically along acid mine drainage. Schwertmannite dominates around pH 3 to 4, jarosite in more acidic conditions.
Composition
Jarosite: KFe3(SO4)2(OH)6; schwertmannite: Fe8O8(OH)6SO4, poorly crystalline.
